Our Training Method

Since I was a child I have had a love for animals. Growing up in an apartment, it was difficult to  convince my parents to let me have my very own dog. My relentless begging paid off and I got my first dog at the age of 5; a toy poodle which I named Gigi.

Since then I have always owned dogs, but it wasn't until I took my first class with Dany Canino in 2002 that I found a method of training that produced my dream dog - one that was reliable no matter WHAT else was happening around us. From that moment on, I was hooked. I trained all of my own dogs (and even some of my friends' dogs) with Dany and Cindy, then spent several years as an apprentice with Dany until she retired. Following this, Cindy and I launched our own business in January of 2012.

I look forward to meeting you in class and helping you to experience the joy of training a dog that is always a pleasure to live with.

Our Mission Statement

When I was 10 years old I trained my first dog and have since insisted on obedient dogs. I have tried several methods of training over the years and have found the best results from the Koehler method of training.

I started training in the early 80's with Dany Canino, a renowned AKC judge, Professional Handler and Dog trainer. I was asked by Dany to assist with classes in 1999 which continued until the end 2011 when Dany announced her retirement. Starting in 2001 I taught the Graduate Novice classes and helped her teach the occasional Open and Utility classes.

My own dogs have earned their titles in AKC Obedience, and Rally. They have worked sheep and participated in agility as well as being certified for therapy work. All it takes is a basic obedience class to get started.

At Time 4 Obedience, our mission is to teach our students how to train their dogs to be  WELL-MANNERED and RESPECTFUL.   Your dog will learn to think and make the right choices despite distractions without using food as a reward.

We will give you the tools to instill reliability in your dog creating a family pet that will be a pleasure to live with for the rest of his or her life.Dog Training School

From the time I can remember, I have always had animals around.  When I was young, I would spend time trying to train our family dogs, but I didn’t have any guidance to do it correctly.  Many of these dogs were also the ranch dogs and had other jobs.

I got my first dog, a cairn terrier, shortly after I got married and my vet suggested I take him to an obedience class when he was 6 months old – he was a bit of a stinker.  I took that advice and attended my first official obedience class with Dany Canino in the early to mid 80’s.  I was so impressed with what I was able to get my little guy to do that I started showing him in obedience.  Following my class, I helped Dany with private training and also assisted with classes and judged graduations.

I reconnected with Cindy and Jennifer around 2018 and soon started helping with classes both in person and online during the pandemic.

My current dogs have titles in AKC obedience and rally as well as tricks and scent work.  I hope I can help you discover how much fun a well-trained dog can be and the many activities you can do with them.

our goal, Our mission, and our Method

The training method we use was created by Bill Koehler. Mr. Koehler was the head trainer for Walt Disney Studios for over 25 years. From 1946 thru 1960 over 11,500 dogs passed through his obedience classes. Since then, many thousands of dogs have been successfully trained using this method.

Our training method is behavior modification using physical and verbal praise, rather than a food reward. This method teaches your dog to obey you on the first and only command. It works on ALL types of dogs from Chihuahuas to Great Danes and everything in between!
